In September of 1967, the Alexander Fire Department fairgrounds
played host to the first steam show. Over 1,000 people attended
the event and it was considered a huge success. Three months later,
in December the Western New York Gas and Steam Show Association
was incorporated. The annual event was held at the Firemen’s
grounds until 1975.
In
1974, the organization decided that it was time to find a permanent
home and purchased the existing grounds from the Kirch Family.
Two years later the associations’ new home was ready and
played host to the 1976 rally. This has been the shows permanent
location ever since.
In
1998, part of the Kruzelnicki Farm was purchased to expand the
steam show grounds to 220 acres. Buildings and improvements have
been made yearly ever since.
In
2001, the grounds were used for the first Alexander Civil War
Days. June 2005, marks the fifth year for this event that celebrates
this history of the Civil War. Battle Reenactments & cannon
firing are just few of the events that visitors look forward to.
The Western New York
Gas and Steam Show Association now has over 1,300 members. Each
year, more than 30,000 people visit the associations annual event.
